Daly's Dozen Commandments for Powerful Presentations By John Jay Daly, APR PRSA
- Thou shalt overcome thy fears and prepare a clear message, preferably one of importance.
- Thou shalt know thy audience and tailor thy message to be relevant and easily understood.
- Thou shalt develop a bold, clever opening plus a memorable closing -- and keep them as close together as appropriate.
- Thou shalt research, document, verify and update thy facts, using visuals where appropriate
- Thou shalt carefully weave tasteful humor in appropriate amounts throughout thy message
- Thou shalt dress appropriately and pre-ensure the physical setup is conducive to success.
- Thou shalt respect “the power of the parable" and creatively employ colorful phrases which will enable thee “to make the mundane memorable and the prosaic picturesque."
- Thou shalt choose thy words with care, clearly enunciate and correctly pronounce them while regularly modulating thy voice to produce needed variety as to volume, pacing, and tone
- Thou shalt rehearse. Thou shalt rehearse and do it again. Thou shalt then appear “natural”
- Thou shalt work with event planner to allow for a meaningful, lively question-and-answer period.
- Thou shalt summarize thy key points with strong, memorable words, yet conclude on time by providing useful passouts to extend the learning process.
- Thou shalt patiently evaluate wise critiques to determine if they will improve performances.
