During the Korean War he was a Navy Photo and Pub Info officer on a carrier and then began 20-year career on PR staff with three national trade associations, each with thousands of members whose varied needs he serviced. Personal

Until she died in 2003 after a ten-year battle with Alzheimer’s, John was married for 51+ years to the former Lu Corbett of Scranton, Pa. They raised eight children ("all girls except for the 4 boys") each of whom is a  college graduate diligently pursuing own careers in Georgia, California, Connecticut, Rhode Island and three in the Washington DC area.

Each New Year John and his wife publish "The Daly Greeting" which John has dubbed as: "The Only Daly Paper Published Annually." Established by his late father in 1916 the paper recounts in a light-hearted way the zestful doings of their 8 children and (so far) 11 grandchildren.

John is now married to Dana O’Conor Surrey, a widow who has 7 adult children and 11 grandchildren so the couple has even more to write about in “The Daly Greeting.”
