The Daly Greeting Daly Greeting article in Bethesda Magazine
In its entire 90 year history, this is the first-ever feature article about “The Only Daly Paper Published Annually.” The 4-page piece was among the 250 glossy pages that made up the November/December 2006 issue of
“Bethesda Magazine.” (Bethesda, Md. is an upscale suburb of Washington, DC, about a dozen miles northwest of The White House).
It came about because Steve Hull, Editor & Publisher of the thriving new magazine and his wife Susan, the Associate Publisher, received the 90th issue and -- as alert journalists sensitive to family issues –-
suggested that the background about the paper would make an interesting feature. It’s reprinted here with their permission. For more data, send E-mail to: information@bethesdamagazine.com
One of my eight adult children, Brendan, took the lead in writing it, but, as noted in italic at end of the piece, he got help from many family members, especially his sister Maura who in late ’88 created one of the
paper’s more memorable headlines: DALYS IMBEACHED.
We believe, but obviously can’t prove, that “The Greeting”
-- and isn’t that the perfect name for it? -- is the longest continuously printed family newspaper in the country. My late father produced it for 60 years, I’ve done so for half that time (so far) and expect that some of my children and some of theirs will carry on the fun tradition begun by my Dad in 1916.
Thanks to the efforts of my nephew, Tony Brennan, we’ve produced for our extended family a CD to display back issues of The Greeting on computer screens for easy reference. Visitors to this website who might
want to view this CD are invited to mail a query to me at 5630 Wisconsin Avenue (#903), Chevy Chase, MD 20815-4456.
Now...please enjoy this website...and if you wish, let me know your reaction!
